Visiting the town.

Cranbrook is a wonderful example of an historic town in the Kentish Weald. Taking its name originally from the Old English Cran Broc  (meaning Crane Marsh - an area of land often visited by cranes), the stream, The River Crane,  runs through the valley behind the town.

The High Street itself remains largely unchanged and evidence of it roots of yesteryear can still be seen in its beautiful weatherboarded houses and shops that line the side of the roads.

Although a relatively small town, it has plenty to offer the visitor. Museum, churches and the Union Mill, Cranbrooks very own working mill, whose white weatherboard and sails overlook the town, an impressive site not to be missed.

In the neighbouring village of Sissinghurst, just 3 miles from Cranbrook, are the world famous Sissinghurst Castle Gardens. The beautiful Elizabethan House was once home to Vita Sackville-West, poet and novelist.

For a spot of shopping, Cranbrook has plenty of choice. Independent shops for everything from everyday shopping through to gifts and antiques, along with coffee shops, tea rooms and restaurants.
