EMMA BRIDGEWATER

We are one of the leading stockists of Emma Bridgewater pottery in the UK and are one of a select few who stock the entire range. Regular deliveries throughout the week from the factory in Stock-on-Trent ensure we keep good levels of stock in of all her designs.

The company was born in 1985, when Emma was looking for a birthday present for her mother. She wanted to buy a cup and saucer, but in the shops she couldn't find anything that she liked; the choices seemed to be either formal bone china with stiff silver or gold patterns, or clunky earthenware. She liked some of the colourful Italian designs that she saw, but being made of terracotta they would crack or chip in the dishwasher. Emma saw an opportunity and decided to design her own.

Emma drew four shapes, a mug, a bowl, a jug and a dish. She went to Stoke-on-Trent to find a model-maker and she worked with him to get these first pieces just right. Luckily, her strong preference for cream earthenware was easily met as this was still in wide production in many large and small potteries in the city. Emma then decided to use a technique called sponge-ware which was last used by the Victorians. Her early samples were an instant hit with the shops she showed them too and led to a flood of orders. Every piece of her pottery is still designed, hand made and hand decorated in her factory in Stoke on Trent. From her original Polka Dots to Black Toast, Union Jack to Hearts and Flowers, her designs have become instant classics. It is a truly great British Product!
